About
The Word Alive is pushing genre boundaries with their innovative blend of hard rock, electronic, and metal, forging a sound uniquely their own. This gold-certified trio from Phoenix—Telle Smith (vocals, guitar, programming), Jose Del Rio (guitar), and Daniel Nelson (drums)—seamlessly combines infectious hooks with intense energy, all underscored by a cinematic flair. With nearly 1 billion streams, a history of sold-out shows, and a fiercely loyal fan base, they’re set to make an even bigger impact with their seventh studio album and 2023 debut for Thriller Records.
“We wanted to take the essence of the band—the heaviness, the atmospherics, the experimental elements, and the melodic side—and put everything into one album,” says Telle Smith. “We took the things we’ve done best and molded them together to create a solidified version of the band. We tried to push ourselves and the boundaries of our genre within the songwriting: from the vocals to the music. Moving forward, you can say, ‘I know who The Word Alive is’.”
Their highly anticipated album, Hard Reset, released in August 2023, showcases their evolution with a powerful blend of urgency and innovation. Produced by a stellar team including Matt Good (Asking Alexandria, Hollywood Undead), Erik Ron (Nothing.Nowhere, I Prevail), and Hiram Hernandez (As I Lay Dying, Blessthefall), the record features standout singles like “New Reality” and fan-favorite “One Of Us” with Noah Sebastian of Bad Omens. “We took a ‘dream team’ approach with it,” Telle notes. “We captured the urgency we’ve always aimed for.”
Summer 2024, The Word Alive electrified crowds at Inkcarceration Festival, and they are gearing up for a major fall U.S. tour, “All My Friends Pt. 2,” alongside Asking Alexandria, Memphis May Fire, and Archers. With their relentless drive and innovative spirit, Hard Reset not only marks a significant chapter in their career but also sets the stage for an exciting future.
